Okay guys, here's the run down. My wife just wreck our 99 Mountaineer. It has a perfect 302 and 4R70 with the AWD T case. Since she was not injured, this is actually good news for the project I have going, an 84 GT convertible that needs an engine/trans. Obviously, the Merc's motor is going to find a new home in the Stang, but the 4R70 can't be used AS IS. So on to the question:
I have two rwd AOD's that can be used as parts...
Or I can try to sell/trade the AWD 4R for a rwd version.
Can I simply gut the 4R and directly swap the output shaft and tail housing from one of the AOD's? One aod (trashed) is from a Mustang and the good one came from an 89 Marquis if it matters.
Additionally, if I try to source a 4R already setup for rwd, which ones in particular will work with the Merc's harness and computer. It would have to be an actually 4r70w, not an aode. Didn't 95-96 F150's come with a 302 and 4r? Maybe the Vans also? Any 3.8/4.2 4r's work?
Automatics are such a pain....
Thanks for any help.
