Vin Decoded
I just bought my first Ford truck. She is a 1978 F250.
Is there someone that can decode my Vin? F26SRAE2249
It has a 400m, with C6 tranny. Dana 60 back with a Dana 40 in the front. Not sure what transfer case.
I think it may be a camper special, but not sure. I have an extra leaf on the back springs, and has dual pistons on the front Disc.
I have a ton of questions, but I'll read and research more before I go crazy with the questions...
Thanks

F26 = F250 4WD Pickup.
S = 400 2V.
R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.
AE2249 = 1978.
There are no codes in the VIN, no codes on the Warranty Plate or the "Safety Standard's Certification Label" that decode to whether a truck is a Camper Special...or not.
Most 1973/79 F250's have dual piston caliper front disc brakes, as it all depends on the F250's GVW.
Only F250's with a GVW of 6200 lbs. have single piston caliper disc brakes.
There is no such thing as a 400M, only the 351M is so called.
There is no such thing as a Dana 40 front driving axle. It's a Dana 44 (or possibly a Dana 60).
Your truck has a NP203 Transfer Case (NP = New Process).
So there isn't any thing special with the added rear spring?
What determines if this is a highboy or not?
Also why is this generation referred to as "dentsides".
Thanks

The last High Boy was assembled in 1977 before serial number Y20,001 (mid-model year 1977).
F250 4WD's assembled from serial number Y20,001 are not High Boys.
1973/79's have an indented scallop line along the body sides...why they're called Dentsides.
I didn't research the rear springs...I was hoping some one else would chime in.
