would like to upgrade my truck have only 43,348 miles on my 4.9L. Need to find serpenteen belt system and stick shift, having problem with it poping out of the shift pattern. Also would like headers and 4 barrel, will have new OE exhaust manifol for sale when upgrade. This is my first Ford truck,I like the way it performs so I'm keeping it. Please Help Thanks

I would not change to a serpentine belt system. It's a lot of trouble, with no benefit. The tranny parts can be had at the junkyard, or just buy a donor truck and rob them out of it.

Go to clifford performance for your 4bbl and intake and the headers.

most of those mods look like a lot of wasted money to me. headers for a 4.9L????? That motor is built for torque and pulling power, not horsepower and go. The exhaust manifold will last longer than headers; i wouldn't swap.

Ditto on the serp belt. Years ago when I put EFI on my 84 I also put the serp belt on, Had it fall off and that sux in the middle of the woods without power steering and engine overheating! Now I am going back to the v belts, which means $$ again and a trip to a junkyard to swap back over.

Do upgrade to the EFI exhaust manifolds, they are a recomended upgrade over the ole log exhaust and are dirt cheap at junkyards. A Holly(?)390 carb with a Offy DP intake is also a good start.

I only got stranded in the woods once with ole Blue Mule, got stuck on the front axle by a stump in 4" of water! As for break downs, never had that happen. With careful driving I got out of the woods without a serp belt on. I drove for 5 mins and stopped for about 20 mins to cool down, did that till I got out, at least the battery held till I got to a parts place! Its nice to have a semi battery(1200 CCA) under the hood!

After I get done with the cab swap and frame restore, I am going to put on a Offy DP I got from a JY, I seen it with a carb and went back to get more tools, the carb was gone! At least I got the Offy DP for $20! Was going to get the headers that was on the engine, but after reading up here and another forum, the EFI exhaust manifolds are the better way to go as I have them on the engine allready.
