I have been looking at upgrading my trucks tranny for a little firmer "truck like" shifts. I know by making the trans shift harder that their will be less clutch slippage. I am not talking about bone jarring, but just a firmer shift.
Well I was about to order a VB, when I broke my Lincoln's input shaft, on the aod. 4500rpm shifts from 2nd to OD is not good.(forgot which gear I was in)
So when I picked up my aod from him and I was talking to him about the 4r100 and he made the comment for the price of the VB he could do a trans shift kit, and new accumulator with HD servo's/springs for the same price including labor/fluids. Would it be ok to go with the transmission shop's idea and let him do the shift kit. or buy a new VB from Factory Tech?
This guy also drag races, and really seems to know what he is doing.
But it has been said time and time again and by Ford transmission engineers that given the choice between tuning the tranny electronically or mechanically, mechanically is better & safer.

I would ask to test drive one of his trucks that have his mod done to the tranny. Or at least find out what exactly he's going to put in there. (name brand etc.)
Mechanically may be safer however it is not better IMO, I learned the hard way. Only thing a "Shift Kit" does is firm up the shifts and make them quicker at the shiftpoint. Doesn't do a thing for TQ lockup, lag and etc. Still have a sluggish tranny just shifts firmer. I'm going back to tuner only from my FTVB so I can get my trans the way I want it.
If its a reputable trans shop I'm shure their accumulator mod will be just fine, as they will probably use the same brand parts as FT uses on their accumulators.
