Tailgate Bushing

I bought a new louvered tailgate to assist in 5th wheel towing and it requires reuse of the original driver-side hinge bushing. Does anyone know how to remove the bushing from the stock tailgate?

Depending on the original tailgate you have there are a couple of answers. If you have the "lift assist tailgate" the drivers side will need a special insert to fit into the round hole on the tailgate. I had to get mine from the the manufacturer of the tailgate (Stromberg Carlson) and it cost about $4.00 I think. Just a small insert that takes up the extra room. On the passenger side, you will need to pull the plastic piece out of the original tailgate with needlenose pliers or something similar. It is easy to get out and will fit right into the new tailgate. I am sure you could probably buy one from Ford, but I have found it easy just to take the one out of the original tailgate. When you trade it in or sell it, it can be put right back in. Hope this helps.
