Tailgate Hinge Bushings?

Does an '83 Styleside tailgate have hinge bushings on both sides? The replacement tailgate on mine doesn't have bushings (apparently discarded with old tailgate). The first dealer I went to couldn't look up anything earlier than 1990 and those were too small. The next dealer had a number for the RH side but no number for the left side. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to remove them undamaged at the salvage yard after seeing how the 1990 parts snap in. Any ideas on how to get replacements would be appreciated.

(sigh)

There is no number for the left side, simply because the right and left are the same, and the parts are still available from Ford. The part number I am listing fits all 1980/86 F100/350's. The current Ford List price is $7.39. If you buy them from FTE sponsor Direct Ford Parts you pay $5.22 each.

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't think they are the same unless we're talking about different parts. The RH side should look something like a big slotted washer which allows the tailgate to be removed when at the correct angle. The LH side (if there is one) would look like a plastic cup.

The Rangers use two, I wasn't sure about the F Series. The text section of the book only shows the right side only for an F100/350..and books are known to be wrong. Regardless, the part number IS correct. And I checked, the part is still available.

EDIT: Picture shows only one..Right side only. Nothing on the left.

E3TZ-99430B22-B 1980/86 ONLY.

1987 and later is a different (E7TZ-99430B22-A) part number

Thanks Bill. I'll order the one for the RH side. Having the part number is handy.

Took me a while to get to it, but I now have the hinge insert in my hand. I don't know if they gave me the wrong part or if it's the wrong part number, but the E3TZ-99430B22-B that I'm looking at is too small. This one is 1-5/8" OD and the one I need should is closer to 1-7/8". Does it fit that sloppy? I haven't taken it out of the dealer's sealed pouch so I can still return it.

There is also a metal washer in the pouch which I'll assume goes behind the insert, but the ID is much too big for the pin which would leave it rolling loose in the socket. The pin is straight (not barbed) and about 3/16" diameter. All-in-all I'm guessing I have an insert for a later model truck. The part number is hand written on the bag.

Any ideas?

If you have a replacement tailgate you need a tailgate insert for the right hand hinge and, according to you, also the left which seem to be the same part number according to Number Dummy. LMC has the insert for '83 - '86 Styleside tailgates. They only show one in their catalogue (#49-8475).
Maybe Number Dummy can answer why are some parts not available from some Ford Dealers and available at others?
