I just installed the edge evolution programmer on my truck. I also have a cat back system, CAI, and I was going to install headers next. But in the Evolution manuel it stated not to combine the Evolution with modifications like the ones I have. The manuel mentioned "Engine damage". Should I really be that worried about this or am I fine
No you are not fine. Edge put that in their manual for a reason; it is designed for STOCK trucks. You don't mention your year or engine, but you may already be running lean if it's a 5.4L, 04-05 (and possibly 06).
i have a K&N drop in air filter (bad choice im going back to stock when i get the time)
i also have exhaust cut outs so i can turn it from stock muffler to open cats.
i also had the "gotts mod" for a short time. once a week i checked on it and even in the winter the truck ran on the fat side. always black in the pipe and out the valve.
would i risk it? no not really, i did more than enough to hurt something but im sure my trucks just fine.
its going to cost the price of your original edge to have PHP remap it. keep that in mind.
gwar1021 what is your doing on lv3, mine has a miss when crusing in 25mph zones but runs great the rest of the time but i also only use level 2 due to high test gas $ and that miss and how much more power can they get out of it over edges tune and do they make you run high test
shotgunz- i payed 250 for my tuner. after 3 tunes (why would you only get one?) shipping and the new case its 220. close enough for me haha.
bad- when i would start breaking and the motor would roll to an idle it would start to sputter and run crappy till i i would get the RPM's up again. not sure what it was about but after 3 times it was OVER.
I never had a stock edge on my 97, so I can't tell you what the difference is between the two. The custom tuned one was pretty awesome.
I can tell you that two moderators and numerous other members on another F150 board swear by the custom tuned Edge (Gryphon). Custom tunes are written for your particular calibration/hex code (there are numerous codes for each model year), your mods, your objectives, and your driving style. They also do not have to meet CARB certification.
Canned Edge tunes better than stock, but they are still a compromise for all the various hex codes, driving style, CARB, etc.
