Edge Evolution questions

I bought a used Evolution on Ebay. It was supposed to be 15003 for 2005-2007, 6.0.(at least that is what the box said) I installed it as guages and didn't really use the programmer side of it much. I tried it once but didn't really see much of a difference in performance, so I left it in stock mode ever since. I recently discovered, while looking through the menu on it, that it is actually a 15002 for 2003-2004, 6.0. My question is, How different are these two programmers? Why are there two different Edge Evolution programmers for the 6.0?

There have been a number of changes to the 6.0 during it's time of manufacture. 2005 in specific was one that probably saw the most of those. Your Edge is setup to talk to the ECM (engine control module) and the TCM (transmission control module) for a specific model year. Although I'm not sure what would actually happen, I would assume that it may upload programming that either does not apply to yours and/or miss uploading stuff that your truck needs.

Right away, I'd file a claim with ebay to get your money back assuming that they did list the item incorrectly.

In all honesty, there is stuff that isn't uploaded no matter what version of the evolution that is used as they don't take into account vehicle strategies. Since it doesn't take into account vehicle strategies, there is a loss of efficiency with how much of an improvement that the tuner can make or if it causes more or less damage to the truck.

In this case, the OP said that he didn't notice much difference, probably because the strategy that the tune is really based off of isn't the same strategy that is in his truck. This is backed up even further when you factor in that he has an Evolution for 2003-2004 and he has a 2005. I'm actually surprised that he didn't get an error message while trying to tune the truck unless his truck had one of the earlier strategies in it that was in the database for the tuner.

Did you get the software disk with the display unit? With it you can go to the edge site and update the evolution to the current program. The program on you truck matched the current program on the edge or you would have gotten an error message on the edge display. I do not know why there is different years for the evolution. Did you call edge?

It's really not programs matching up exactly. It's a database of strategies that the Edge recognizes as a valid one. Same process with the BullyDog, Banks etc. The actual program itself doesn't change unless they found a strategy that they can get more power out of and base their tuning off that one.

If there is a legitimate reason for their needing to be a split for years(2003-2004 vs 2005-2007(or 09 for the vans)), I'm not seeing it if there is only one update and it includes all the latest strategies.
