UPDATE: Reps to bama29fan. We have been playing e-mail tag for a while now. He had to drive out of town just to get the #'s off his cat. Ford says his cat will work on my truck. So after all of his hard work we made a deal. I'll save some money and he will have a little something for the PMS fund.
Sorry it took me so long to answer the questions. I got called in to work on Tuesday morning. On the way in my battery light came on. I got off work this morning (Thursday) and did a little work on the truck. New batteries a new alternator and new belt and I'm back in business.
The truck is an E99 with a 4 speed auto rebuilt by Jim Dandy in Vacaville. Not sure what tranny came in the truck, but Clay said he likes the new one, and I trust his opinion.
Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions. That's one thing that makes this forum so great, and why I just renewed my supporter for 3 years...waiting on my shirt
glad i could help.....i have gotten a lot of help getting my ride back together....as soon as i'm straightened out I will be a supporter!!!
UPDATE: I got the cat from bama29fan (thanks Shawn). I took it to Midas to have it installed. The manager said that he could not install the cat, because it was not new(another Kalifornia BS law). So now it's off to the country mechanic. He welds it on (couldn't get 4" exhaust clamps before reg extension expires). He gives me the name of a smog shop that does a lot of diesel work. I pass with flying colors. The tech tells me that I didn't have to remove half of the parts that the other smog shop told me that I needed to. While they were doing the visual check they found that I was missing a bolt in the turbo. The tech said"not a problem. I have an extra right here." He gave me the bolt and sent me on my merry little way. Now it's time to re-mod and keep a box for smog time. Unfortunately my "loan a cat" program doesn't look like it will happen. I'll probably just leave the thing on. Thanks for everyone's help and input.
I could have left my 6637 and intake in place as long as I had the pick up tube for the CCV attached. And my DPTuner F5 is pending CARB approval, so it is legal. I only needed to remove the OBA and have a cat.
I hate california. Should just take a whole bunch of out of state diesel trucks and blow smoke past the smog regulations office. Set them back 10 years in their global warming fight.
maybe this (diesel friendly) shop can help others on here? maybe start a list of these shops in CA.
Probably not a good idea on a public forum. FTE doesn't want to promote that sort of thing, and the independent smog shop would probably prefer to get business by word of mouth so they don't have any evidence against them published on the web.
Glad to see you got things taken care of. What a pain in the @$$. Luckily I get to wait another year. Of course by then they will make the smog even more strict. But for what is mostly a visual inspection they sure are making things tough.

I agree.
I will say this though, the shop that passed him wasn't "diesel friendly" in as much as they did anything illegal. They were just diesel friendly because they knew what did and didn't pass. That being said, the first shop may not have known DP-Tuner was on the pending approval list because the ET Blast from CARB was just issued a couple weeks ago. But they should have known the 6637 was good to go, since all intake air filtering systems have been given the green light for diesels.

This shop did nothing illegal. The tech is a 7.3 owner and knows the common mods. He has paperwork from CARB to back up his decision. I had reverted my truck back to stock for the inspection. You can go to Database: Aftermarket Parts Database of Executive Orders to see for yourself.

I didn't mean to imply they did anything illegal, just to imply that a shop can gain a reputation for being the diesel shop to go to which might bring unwanted attention from regulators.
