Julie , sounds good . This may get more involved than most think .It would be great to do a total resto 101 on a Magic Air heating system . starting with the making of the gaskets or the source to purchase them, fresh air tube dissassemble , media blast , imperfection repair wether it be rust thru hole repair (welding or fiberglass) , priming and paint (Correct color ). The same process with the heater itself , the felt door repair ( source for correct felt ), the process to remove said door and inner diverter .Location of heater boots ( got that covered ) . Refferal to Jordan on the emblems . Where to acquire the 12 V replacemnet motor ( part # ) How to remove motor from fan if stubborn .Will be doing all this in June . So will take pics of each process , repair and etc. Have done all this before so this will be just be a skills test for me .Might even start with the salvage yard score of said parts. This could include tips on removing 57 yr. old rusted parts .So what do you think .Later , Denny
So I have not seen any more Magic Air Heater motor covers listed on Ebay since the last one that did not sell!
Eaby is a wierd beast; sometimes things go quick others times they may not get the attention you would expect?
Anyway, do you have any idea on a buy it now price? or a FTE buddy's bulk sale price?? I'm not in any hurry for one just yet but just curious how that avenue is being traveled.
If it were me I would be selling as many as possible before I started getting competition, course maybe that won't happen either??
Well, I screwed up on the one that sold cheap because it ended on a supernationals day. Another thing I have ran into is that when these were made they have very slight machine marks and wrinkles on the sides. That is no big deal, but I had to replace one because the guy could not live with it. I do not think that I will have competition unless someone makes the 52 emblem. If they do all the power to them. I would like to see those repopped too. I picked up a drive shaft from Blueovalrage yesterday and I showed him one of my worst emblems so he knows what they are.
Does anyone know if the Magic air badges are still available somewhere? I've got a 52 F1 5 star extra cab. Worst case, would be interested in getting in fabricated if anyone has a drawing with dimensions and tab locations. These have gone scarce again. Only one I could find was on a full heater on ebay but not willing to pay $300 just to get the badge off of it. Also, was there ever a dedicated thread made for restoring the heater. I'm a little new to restoring and by the look of my research it's getting really hard to find original or original remade parts like this.
Here’s another way of looking at this; $300 especially in today’s $ is cheap, considering,#1; that’s likely the icing on the cake of a very long and expensive restoration project if being done correctly . #2 I’d have to imagine getting them reproduced, one would be lucky if all you spent was $300 in start up costs alone especially if someone else was doing it for you.
But that one on eBay is $350 not $300 and the heater is worthless missing many parts, so the badge is basically what’s being sold there. However, you might get lucky as one 52 badge just sold last week on eBay for $35!
Another thought is that some original 52 trucks had dealer installed 51 heaters in them. One nicer thing about the 51 heater was the illuminated control panel that looks identical to 52 except it’s somewhat nicer no cheap sticker, and has chrome bezels. The 51 badge seem a little easier to find too. You can of course just mix and match like I did 52 badge & heater with a 51 control panel. However the rubber boots are different. So your heater itself will stay one year. Hope this helps.
