Well I listed another one on ebay. My goal with ebay is to at least get back everything I have in them. I will just have to wait and see.

I'm not in a hurry for one, my truck is still in a hundred and seventy eight pieces, but I am just still collecting the parts I will need when they are available. I'm sure there are others that are ready now though.?
good luck

Josh

I have 4 setting in front of me know that are ready to go. I figured you guys would not want to pay what they are going for on ebay. I will have one for everybody eventually. I can order more. The more I buy the cheaper they get. I am not sure how much cheaper though.

I can relate to that . Have a drawer full of both style heater boots just waiting on some one who needs one . Same deal here . The more of them I sell the price of the materials decreases .I know of some one on here who needs a '51 style boot . I am hoping we can arrange some type of trade deal on an item I need that he has (paper work ).

Keep us posted on the emblems and with some reference to cost in the near future . Thanks again for making the much needed final resto part for the Magic Air heaters , Denny

Well, I'm confused now. I was just out to the barn to check my '51 to see what kind of shape its Magic Air badge is in and found it has the kind we've considered as being a '52. I can't take a pic of it just now because the wife has the camera at a dog event, but it's like the one below. And I can't compare it to my '52 truck's Magic Air because it's missing its badge. The '51 with the Magic Air is an untouched original 5 Star Extra, so there's no chance it was cobbled together later in life. Does this suggest that both badges were sourced during both years? Stu

Food for thought Stu.

We've seen that in some states, 51 trucks sold late - in 52 were actually titled as 52 trucks.

This emblem you have pictured is the 52 emblem.

I would think it is entirely possible that the 51 truck you are talking about was purchased late at a dealership, a Magic Air was requested installed on it and the dealer was into his 1952 heaters.

It would be inteesting to hear about the firewall hole locations, duct connection, etc on this truck. I'm wondering if we are about to discover some more exceptions.

I have a Sales Brochure for the 52 MAgic Air - I'll post a pic just to support the 51/52 distinction. Here ya go:

Julie , you may be onto something . I think the dealer installed ( optional equip in '52 price $62.40 ) Magic Air heaters were not changed right at yrs. end . Maybe they used what ever they had left over .
Would like to get a hold of an emblem like that in the pic and be able to see what my buddy with the 4 axis CNC has to say about making them . I am sure he would entertain the challenge .

The '51 with the Magic Air is F3R1SP21892. It's got the later '52 style VIN plate, and no firewall plate suggesting it's a late production '51. Both it and my '52 that has the Magic Air have heater core tubes that are in vertical alignment about 5" on center. My other two '51s that don't have Magic Air systems have vertically aligned core tubes that are about 2" on center. My other '52 that doesn't (yet) have a Magic Air has core tubes that are horizontally aligned and about 2-3" on center. How's all that compare with others? Stu

So if I'm reading what you said correctly, the late 51 and one of the 52s have holes the same distance apart at 5," and two of your 51s and another 52 have holes at 2-3 inches right? Weird.

I noticed in some of the picture that have been posted showing the heater outlets on the firewall that it looked like there was a series of "knockout" holes in that area. I wounder if the firewalls were made to support both heaters - and one of which might have tube spacing the same as the recirc heaters?

IOW the tubes were different spacing between recirc and majic air. Ford cut knock outs to mount either, and later re-engineered the 52 MAgic aire to have tubes the same distance apart as the Recirc heaters (and possibly use the same heater cores as well)???

One problem is it sounds to me like you have too many trucks!

On your last point I couldn't agree more. Plus, since posting, I've looked at my other bare 52 cab and see that it too has the recirc heater holes that are horizontal/side-by-side like the 52 mentioned above. That cab in addition has the blanking plug on the side of the cab still in place where the fresh air tube of a Magic Air would have otherwise been installed. You're right that there are small blanking plugs on the firewalls that allowed the plants to install whichever heater was specified on the build sheet.

Going back and reading your post where you wonder about the intake on my Magic Air '51, I've not dug into it to see what the boot looks like. I'll do that in the morning. Stu

OK, here's what I found. It's a '51 Magic Air but has what we've considered as being a '52 badge. What does this do to our '51 vs. '52 theories? Stu

I see a '51 Magic Air heater with a '51 emblem . Have also seen '51 & '52 Magic Air heaters with the other style emblem .I believe the dealer ship used what ever parts ( emblem ) was available or that they had at the time a customer called for the optional heater install . Still need to get a hold of an emblem as pictured by truckdog to see what it would cost to have them reproduced . Can any one help ? Thanks , Denny

OK, I thought I was hearing that the badge with the Ford logo was a '52. Seems both badges were used in both years. But the fresh air tube section that mounts at the cab was different, right? The '52 had the boxed end. Stu

Correct , the '52 fresh air elbow protrudes thru the kick panel about 1" .The sq. end heater boot attaches to it .
The '51 elbow is flush at this point and has a 4" adapter ring that bolts to the elbow . This accepts the '51 round end heater boot .

Well the other thing that we have to realistically accept is that it might not be the original badge on the heater or perhaps the heater is a mix mash of parts that were used to restore/repair it at one time.

Also it could be very possible that the original installed heater had a problem and the dealer installed a 52 case to replace it. The extension with the air door comes off with one screw (maybe two) and is MUCH easier to disconnect that the boot or the duct from the cowl. That might explain why one of your 51 heaters has the same outlet spacing as the 52s (or vice versa). Lets say a diverter door broke off it's shaft - something that couldn't be repaired, and they replaced the front half of the case - theoretically.

Who knows?
