sounds like the rocker is binding up for some reason.

where did they snap (flush with head or up at the rocker) i would have thought a push rod or rocker arm would break before a stud. i have been told to use 7/16 studs if i can from two machine shops due to them having repaired broken 3/8 studs many times on high performance sbf motors.

Makes me wonder.. are these real ARP studs or just cheap Chinese copies. I don't think you could break a real APR stud.. something else would give first like the rocker or the head itself. Where did you get these studs from anyway? Lets hope it wasn't Ebay.

They could have broken due to not being tightened sufficiently. Check out the ARP website, it's very informative and they describe various kinds of failures (six as I recall).

Hi guys hopefully problem sorted contacted world products [roush iron heads fitted] apparently studs to short only 5-6 threads going into locker so need slightly longer studs ! they say don't need 7/16th studs unless going over 600 lift have 540 , only time will tell ,cheers for replies, Kev UK.
