Rocker Arm Studs
#3
ok i broke one of the studs and it no longer has any thread on it. after it happened i pulled over and took out the rocker arm, push rod, and the locking nut that was bouncing around under the valve cover. i drove it at about 30 mph for about 50 miles after that happened with what i guess was the lifter making the most god awful noise and now im in BFE with no shop and basic hand tools. please tell me good news please. if there is no way to get it out can i take the intake off and remove the lifter to get me back to civilization?

I had one brake a few weeks ago, it was an exhaust stud. popped like crazy on the way back to the shop.
the lifter we hope is still in the bore and not bouncing around under the intake, what ever you do don't rev it very high#####not good##### go as slow as you can stand it if you have to drive it.

im not really sure. i was on my way to the dock (I work offshore[im offshore now]) when it happened and it was dark. when the truck was idleing it would sound normal but as soon as you gave it some gas it started to make a loud tapping (like metal to metal) and the more gas i gave it the louder it got so i would only give it enough to get me in to 3rd gear and keep it there. if it is the exaust side what did you have in mind? what if it is the intake side? Nice Dyno video by the way!

Thanks....
well,if I had to drive it and it was an exhaust stud I would remove the rocker from the intake valve and stop the fuel from getting in there. take the plug wire off and ground it out on a bolt or something and keep the r's down you don't want to pop the lifters out of the their bores, should get you home without filling the block with gas or bending a rod from hydro locking it with fuel....you never know.

Thanks for all your help man. I really appriciate it. But how am I going to get the old stud out? You think I can do it at the dock with no special tools? If I can I would rather do that than drive it like it is. Maybe a good pair of vice grips and alot of shims? Or will that just mess up the heads? I just had them replaced less than a 1000 miles ago and I cant afford to replace them again. Anyway thanks for all your help and pray for me. lol anything to help. Godspeed.
