I have a 66 F-250 with a 300 6cyl. It has press in rocker studs. Some have worked loose and I have replaced them with thread in studs. Previous owner had drilled holes in rocker towers and driven roll pins through tower and studs
A couple of studs sheared roll pins and lifted up in the head. When I threaded these two and installed studs the holes for the roll pins are below the end of the stud and antifreeze leaks through hole. I installed allen screws in the head and then the rocker studs. Dose anyone know if there are rocker studs with longer ends that screw into the head?
The ones I have are 7/16 coarse thread by about 7/8 that screws into head. 1 1/4- 1 1/2 would work fine.
Thanks guys!
I'm wondering if by drilling those cross holes, the guy did not weaken the towers. Creating weak spots scares me more than having the press ins pull out. If you have an aftermarket cam, there is more tension on your v. train, thus more stress on the stud.
The smart thing to do at this point may be to replace the head. A 240 head is a nice performance up-grade. You might also want to think about porting it.
Having said that, if you want to stick with your head, I'd look at what Summit Racing offers. It is easy to shop on line. I'd also google some fastener suppliers. Or look locally. Good luck.
I have another head to go on my engine. I am having it worked. Will I need new pushrods? If I change pushrods should I also change rockers?
Thanks guys!
