Firm shifts are good. As long as it isn't "rattling the dash" firm you should be ok. I had a sticking accumulator body in mine that was BRUTAL when it shifted. I swapped that out and it's good now. Still firm but not shake your fillings out firm.
I'm planning a 5 speed swap (from the truck in my sig) next year. You need a ZF5 from a 7.3, all the hydraulics, pedals, and a clutch and flywheel (reccommend a single mass and valair clutch) for your year engine. You can even run the manual trans with your auto PCM. You'll have to figure out a way to wire in reverse lights with the manual though, and the neutral safety switch.
Orr, One, question, do you have gauges?, if not, you should install them before any mod, and with your chip its a must if you want to take care of your engine.
You could get an upgraded valve body, a larger tranny cooler.
Very good idea. That's exactly what I did at the same time I did my injectors and everything else. Contact racer x, I love the way my tranny shifts now. Does not slam in any gear, but a nice real firm shift everytime. Although I'm still worried about my tranny as it has 148xxx miles on it. I haven't went wot from a stop yet cause it has so much more power i'm afraid the tranny will drop out on the ground!! Also the trucool 4739(I think thats the number) will drop you tranny temps some too. Much bigger than the stock one. Both these items are fairly inexpensive and a must if do injectors imo, at least the valve body.
