New to this forum. Im usually on the 96 diesel forum. But my brother has a 98 f150 and his transmission has a good solid engagement in all gears but when u step on the gas there nothin. There is an intermittent howling only when in gear. Sometimes when u put it into gear it kills the truck. Any ifo wud be great. Don't think the tranny is bad only has 98000 miles. It is an automatic

You should first check with a 'good' scanner for transmission codes in the 700 range.
A low end reader may not be progammed to see these codes.
