Forgive if this has been addressed, but I searched and really could not find an answer.
I almost feel like an idiot asking this question, but I am having a heck of a time trying to read my dipstick. I never have had this problem before with a vehicle. When you are reading the end of the dipstick, i got a bead of oil 1/4 the way up the marker (alittle above the min mark). Above the bead is a very thin layer of oil to the top of the marker (at the max mark). Where is the level at? The bead? Or the top of the oil run.
From my experience the little dab of oil on the top of the marker is oil that has been dragged up the dipstick tube. As long as the thickest of the oil is between the min and max line you are OK. The ford dipstick sucks to read for sure.
I don't have any trouble reading mine, you just have to be sure and wipe it off really well first. If you suspect it's overfull, don't insert it all the way before checking, stop with the bottom of handle on top of tube, about 3/4" up, and see if its showing in the range then.
The handle on my dipstick broke a few years ago. The factory Ford replacement dipstick uses a gray plastic reader insted of the black original one which makes it WAY easier to read.
