Well no offence to any one it looks like I'll be keep the factory 3 speed for I'm not screwing up a truck that has taken alot of money and time to restore. It just will not make a good truck to drive down the interstate. maybe i could if I run extreamly high gears it will.

i currently have to plans of attack for the highway issue with my flatty powered 53 . one i put a t98 heavy four speed in it to replace the weak 3 speed as i tend to use and abuse despite saying i won't . i have an 8.8 diff with a 3.08 gear in it i was going to put in her to use in conjunction with the four gear . with the ultra low first taking off is no problem and with the low gear i might actually be able to go 55 , maybe even the speed limit 65 or gasp , break it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or i just recently procured a t5 from a freebie s10 i was given and keep the oe 3.92 geared diff . the truck is at my cuz's as he intends to stick another 400sbc in one , and the tranny , and all it's bits are mine . despite our beloved flatties being a little low on power they still are more than capable of working their butts off and were different ladies and gent's !! no 5.0's and sbc's for us !!!!!!!!!!!!!

man I was going to use this truck for an everyday driver, but that would intell me getting on the interstate. I'm not looking just for speed to go the speed limit, but also mpg. With a 3 speed the rpm will be high so that will cut the mpg alot. I also have no dought that a flathead with like 325 gears and a 5 speed would get like 23 mpg and run 70. But this will not happen now. I guess I'll stay with my 97 F-150 that is on 37x13.5s.
