my truck recently sputtered and got jammed up for a moment in 2nd gear and when i leveled out engine light came on. plugged it in and got engine codes PO171 and PO174 saying my systems fuel is running lean on both banks. gonna change the fuel filter first but im not sure that will do anything, any ideas for checking for leaks or damaged hoses? there is a noticeable hissing noise when under the hood but cant locate it...
Check all your vacuum hoses. See if any fell off, or maybe have a rip. tear or hole in them. Run your fingers down them to check the back side of the hoses.
If nothing is found, take a propane torch and open the valve a little (but do not light it). Move this around all of the fittings, joints and hoses along the top side of the engine while the engine is idling. If you hear the idle change (unless you're near the air filter itself) you're in the area where you leak is located.
