hi all, didnt want to hijack the other 05 thread so i figure i should start a new one. I have also found a nice 05 F250 with 61000 miles, 1988 hours on engine. Test drove it last night and felt solid strong and solid. I asked the seller about any major work being done and he said it had only been in a couple times. well that couple times turns out to be 8 total from what the oasis reports says. I'll give a quick list of the jobs but my question is if all these things are fixed, do I still have much to worry about?
8308 miles:
Exh. pres. sensor replaced
26105 miles:
crank, no start. batteries failed and replace
cel still on carbon on egr, cleaned good to go
42085 miles:
no start when hot, replaced FICM, flashed PCM check okay
42109 miles:
no start, check for chaffing, found crank and cam sensor concern, replaced sensors retest, sensor going open intermentantly
42739 miles:
no start when hot, after few hours it will start, icp pressure low 236 max, ran test ipr air leak noticable at rear of engine, r&r hp cover found STC fitting leaking. r&r stc fitting, checked okay
54104 miles:
blowing white smoke, no power. pulled egr found coolant present on valve and intake. r&r egr cooler. retest and good
55812 miles:
hard to start, black smoke from exh. have to add coolant to overflow. performed pcm reflash tcm and ficm for low coolant found on degras cap bad, replaced, road test eot and ect 23 deg, dif. ck cooling fan operation pressure venting cap, replaced oil cooler kit check egr cooler reroad test test eot and ect 7 deg diff but still venting cap.
I need to let the bank know what i'm going to do tomorrow so any quick hint as to deal or no deal would be very helpful.
This would have me concerned:
"55812 miles:

If the cap is still venting there's something wrong, and it could be the head gaskets.
If truck is a deal and you can get the dealer to do studs and egr cooler delete while they are in there. go for it.
Looks bad at first glance but STC is common on 05 , egr cooler and oil cooler should have been done together the first time. Dead batteries probably took out the FICM.
I think Helen Keller could have seen the oil cooler coming.
This is what always amazes me. The "throw parts at it and pray" mentality in the earlier days and the still low tech expertise in some dealerships has hurt the 6.0 reputation more than any perceived design flaw.
I agree about throwing parts at it, I work in the Powersports industry and you wouldn’t believe how many dealers don’t know how to truly diagnose the problems. So the real question is assuming these things are fix under warranty correctly, should I have any other concern?
Sounds to me like it's basically a good vehicle that needs a good tech. It's got the common 6.0 problems. Double check the 5 months left on warranty as it is an IN SERVICE date and not the production date. Also, the crank and cam sensors are virtually bullet proof on these engines. That was IMHO a guess on the tech's part--again throwing parts at the problem. Also--check the coolant level in the bottle as it should either have a level correction sticker or be very low in the bottle--Mininum line should be the MAX coolant level. If it's over that it could easily be just an overfill problem not a motor problem.
Is the seller a dealer or private? If dealer get them to throw in an esp warranty. If private get them to adjust the price to split the extended warranty. Just a thought.
