Opinions Please

First of all thanks to Maxium4x4 for running this oasis for me, very much appreciated, especially for being a new guy.

I really am looking to join the diesel family and need a good rig to pull my 22' cargo trailer with and have found a pickup that I like, but this long listed oasis concerns me. But it seems that 03 -04's have problems, is this one of them? Could you guys chime in with your opinion?

FYI
2004 Ford 4x4 SD Crew Cab Shortbox
I think it is running 305 x 70 x 16 Tires
I has an edge programmer in it.
I don't know a whole lot about diesels so your help is greatly appreciated.

I tend to lean to the conservative side with trucks like this...

With the programmer on there and all the work that has been done...I would walk away. I am personally scared of most chips. The only one that I would ever look at is the SCT from Spartan with custom tunes.

I bet some of that work was because of the chip. Just my 2 cents and I am not a professional diesel guy so take it for what it is worth.

The truck is running about 58,000 miles on it right now.

I am on the conservative side to and was thinking if I got it of taking the programmer out of it (at least for awhile)

Some of the problems noted seem to just be re-flashes, but injectors and wiring harnesses, rear main seals?

Keep your opinions coming I am still learning and this is a lot of money to jump into uneducated.

Thanks

Anyone remember all the pics of the scarred and shreded pistons, rods, ect from a few months ago? They were in a Chip thread, but I can't find them again. With 58,000 miles and all those problems, plus a tuner on top there could easily be lots of damage to engine components that would require a compelte tear-down to find/fix and might only come out in a few ten-thousands more miles when something completly fails.

I think I'd pass. Shop for the truck you want and wait for the right opportunity. This one has too many gremlins for a 3 - 4 yo truck, and no reason to think they've been 'exorcised.'

Darn, I was afraid of your responses.

Goes to show you that you can't judge a book by its cover. This pickup is clean, no rust no dents, no leaks, the only problem I could find (visually) is a small crack in the center of the front grille. Thanks to all that responded, I guess I will keep searching.

Pass. Stay away from any truck that has or has had an Edge product in it.

Question for anyone: Can you still put Line-X in the bed on the new 08's where the cab is removed to work on the engine? A couple of years back I had a rattle in the bed and Ford Dealer told me they couldn't investigate it because of the Line-X having been sprayed in.

I currently have a 2001 F-250 7.3 L Crew cab, Long bed, SRW and I'm thinking of moving up. Thanks.

Having Line-x sprayed in the bed would have no effect at all on engine work, as the cab can be pulled without removing the bed. However, I would suggest making sure the Line-X dealer removes all your bed bolts before spraying it in to avoid problems like you mentioned.
