Have a 05 F-150 FX4 (55k) and the "Outside Temperature" reading is always displaying over 100 + degrees, varies on the true outside temperature and can range from 100-1xx degrees.
** This is on the right side of the MPH gauge cluster, at the bottom; with the "compass" displaying the direction you are traveling (N, S, NE, etc.). The Compass IS functioning correctly.
It's minor / cosmetic to me, but figured I'd ask, might be an easy fix?
Did a thread & Google search, with no luck.
I noticed a tiny black square attached to the windshield with the rear view mirror........is that the sensor?
Does it fluctuate different temperatures when you’re parked and when driving, or is it always high?
Mine starts to climb (sometimes as much as 15C) if I'm parked in one spot too long, without airflow traveling through the front grill. I blame it on heat soak. I may look into attempting to relocate the sensor to move it further away from engine heat.
I had it replaced under warranty. If I remeber right the guy said its the sensor thats right behind the grill. I think its the one thats infront of the radiator. Could be wrong though. He did say it was easy but since it wasnt going to cost me anything they did it.

Hes right
Its in the center bracket in front of rad its the top one has a point on it the outher sensor is the air bags
Remove that top plastic panel that cover the gap between the grill and top of radiator, it's right underneath that panel.
Ambient air sensor
Excellent, I'll call the dealership today and see if they have it in stock and pop the hood after work today, looks pretty easy removing / replacing the part.......thanks for the help!
Had my F-150 for over 5 years now and that temp. has never displayed correctly. If it's hot out, the sensor reads cold (20-30 degrees colder), if it's cold out, the sensor reads hot (10-30 degrees higher).
Finally got around to locating the sensor, can't miss it, right in front of the radiator. BUT.......the bugger won't budge!!
It appears to be "clipped" in (snap on both sides), and I can't get it out.
Any suggestions on how, don't want to break the hook that's holding it to the frame.
On my 2001, I unscrewed the metal bracket from the frame with the sensor still attached. Then I could remove the sensor from the bracket. Made it much easier.
