Miss my compass and temperature reading

I have a new 2010 F250 XLT 4X4 used for towing a travel trailer. It has a auto dimming rear view mirror. It does not have a compass or outside temp reading.
what options do I have to install these features? Does the current mirror wiring support a mirror with a compass in it? What about outside temp . . any suggestion there?
thank in advance

You can check this out: Retrofit Ford F150, F250, F350 Overhead Console Kits

I haven't done it myself, but it is on the list.

I'm not sure about the XLT, but my 08 Lariat has both--just not on the rear view mirror. The compass is in the message center (by the odometer). I would think you'd have that too.

My exterior temp is displayed if I hit the EXT button on my automatic AC. Not sure you'll have this unless you have the auto air.

Of course, I could be completely wrong about the 10 model--I haven't seen them. I didn't think they changed too much from the 08.

Hope this helps.

My 08 XLT has the simple message center and no automatic climate control. There is no temp or compass on my truck, but they could have changes post 08.

That surprises me. I guess I just figured all the message centers would be standard. I wonder if the functionality is there, but just not enabled.

Someone smarter than me will have to answer!

My message center has the two trip meters, the mileage meter, odometer, system check, system setup, miles to empty, and blank screen.

That sounds like what I have except for maybe system check. I usually keep mine on miles to empty (even though it's a little depressing). I'm trying to picture it in my head, but I believe my compass reading is right there with the miles to empty. I'll pay attention when I drive home.

Ok, I just checked and it's located on the bottom line of the message center to the left of the odometer, regardless of what screen you are on. The XLT must not have it standard or you would have noticed it. Seems to me like that should be standard on all trim levels. It would annoy me not to have it.

To the OP, unless someone else chimes in, it looks like you'll have go go aftermarket after all. Sorry.

Mine doesn't use that space in the message centre

Not having the temp is something that drives me nuts. One day I will order the kit in the link I posted, until then I have a cheap velcro thermometer that is somewhat accurate.

You might check with Ford. Like I said, maybe the functionality is there and just not enabled (like daytime running lights).

Anyone else know?

for aftermarket you can get a mirror with temp and compass, and the temp sensor & wire to drag out to the front hood area..

I did this on my wifes mustang, and my 06 F150 (the grey on grey was hard to read)..

here's one ford, with the temp lead it appears..

I've got a Gentex auto dimming mirror with compass and outside air temp in my truck. Mine was from an 05-07 chevy truck, but it came with the needed wiring and air temp sensor. I paid about $125 for mine a couple of years ago new in the box from ebay.

I second going this route.

Thanks to all for the enthusiastic and timely response! The info, your experience and especially the links to current products are greatly appreciated. I'll be going the aftermarket route I guess. This is a basic XLT truck but, I find difficult to understand why Ford would include all the state of the art Sync features, Bluetooth, auto dimming mirror, etc and not have temp and compass. Guess I have become spoiled. Thanks again and have a Blessed day!

The 09 XLT doesn't have it either...I would like to have one.
