None of the outside temp displays have been accurate on any of my cars, as most are mounted low on the front frame so they get the heat form the road as well as radiated heat from the radiators, not sure where they are on the '17 yet.
I also hate the fact that if you idle the truck the temp stays where it was when you park. So in ND it may read 25 in the morning. But still show 25 at 5pm when it is 75 if the truck hasn't moved a long distance.
It's on the underside of the passenger rearview mirror. Metal objects gain heat, so if it's day time (or a warm evening) and the truck is parked, the reading will be high until you start driving.
I think the Super Duty has one of the best locations for the outside temp probe of any vehicle. It is high enough off the ground to not be affected much by heat radiating from the pavement, and away from the vehicle enough (mirrors extended) to not be as affected by heat radiating off the vehicle. Note that aluminum bodywork gains and loses heat faster than traditional steel. Additionally, but not locating the sensor in the grille or bumper area like most vehicles, the temp is not affected by heat soak when the vehicle is parked.
I was quite surprised to find out Ford was locating the temp probe here on both the previous generation and the 2017 trucks, since it is definitely more costly to locate here vs in the grille area. Some very cheap vehicles actually use the IAT probe in the plastic air intake to display ambient temp.
I find my Super Duty temp to start off much more accurate than my dad's 2016 F-150 (with the temp sensor located in a traditional spot).

The 2013 F150 temp sensor is located behind the grill.
You must have done a search on this forum then posted this question. This is the newer Super Duty side of the house. There is a F150 explicit forum here also that you will get better answers from.
