Question Broke Fuel Filter

Ok, today I noticed my fuel filter was leeking gas, so I went to tighten it up, and the threaded part broke off flush with the hole in the carberator. Anyone know how I can get this out? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Try using an easy-out. The hole is already there.

Easy outs Work great! The filter is made of a soft metal.

Thanks guys, I don't have one, but I'm sure my buddy does. I'll give him a call in the morning. Thanks for your help. Maby I'll have it fixed in time to make it to the local cruse in tomorrow night.

So I got my neighbors easy-out this morning, got the broke piece out, put the new filter in, and guess what happened? Yep, the new one broke too. I screwed it in, it didn't feel like it was getting tight, and it was still leeking so I tightened it up a little more, and snap. So, I went to the parts house, and got a brass fitting and put it on and ran a inline filter, and all is good. Thanks guys for your help.

I prefer the inline filter also. Did you wrap the threads of the new/old filter with teflon tape before you put it in?

Yes I did.

Not sure what brand of filters they were, the first one was the one that was already on the truck, the second was whatever they gave me at the parts house.

i never did like that filter that screws into the carb..

i just do what you did and put a fitting in there a an inline fuel filter..
then you can visually see your gas...

Wow. I hand tighten mine then give it one complete turn with the wrench and it doesn't leak.

This is the first time I've had any break. Usually there just fine. Like you said, hand tighten it, a turn or so with the rinch, and its usually good.
