Fuel filter cap removal.
There is also a 6.0 forum here - so you may want to check with the folks that hang out there to see if they have any suggestions. I have a gasser, so I'm not sure what the component looks like. Can you get a strap wrench or a set of vice grips on it? Are you going to replace it with a part that works when you finally remove it?
Never use the 1/2" drive it will brake the cap. Get a socket that
fits on the cap and only use that. As for how to remove the old one.
Strap wrench really won't grab very well some have tried the adjustable pliers
one other thing to do is get a bit of steel and drill some holes into it place that
over the cap and run 2 #10 screws into the plastic and unscrew it that way
just be ready to replace the filters after your done. Also use a turkey baster
to remove all the diesel int he filter housing so there is not any chunks from the
cap left behind. When you put the new cap on make sure to use some clean motor oil
on the new O-ring and wipe the seal surface on the housing clean each time you change
the filters. Stick with OEM filters and caps for both fuel and oil. The aftermarket ones
will give you nightmares.
Come on over to the 6.0L forum and say hi and feel free to ask any questions.
