He had a valve body and Jody had live tuned his chip. If a chip adjustment is necessary, he's half way to Jody's already.

Talked to Rick about 5 pm. He was near Little Rock on his way home. Truck's doing great. May need a little tweaking by Jody on his 80e shifts. I'm sure he will give us all the "low down" in the morning. I bet his cheeks (mouth, lol) hurt from all that grinning he did all the way home. Congrats, Rick!

Nice, thanks for the update Roland... Not sure if it was asked or I missed Rick's thread, if there even was one but was Rick's stock trans showing possible problems which led him to this trip to Brian's(BTS)???

I don't think he was having any issues yet. It was just time to visit Brian.

He did notice something strange when he was running it hard in 140 aggressive. Rick will be able to tell us more about it. I don't recall how he described it. He "did" have the mechanical diode trans. Could have been signs of impending failure.

Thanks Roland my brother, and thanks guys for the input.

I got home a little after midnight last night and sleep in a little because I had to unwind in my shop for a couple hours with my frig.
Brian, Patty and the guys were great to me while I was there. First thing Patty did was to bring me around and show me where everything was so I would feel at home for the day. They had me pull my truck into the shop. I thought they would have lifts but they put a big jack on my rear end and jacked the truck way up. 15 mins later the trans was headed to the rebuild room. I don't remember the guys name but he started taking the valve bodys off, then started taking everything out of the case. Man, I had no idea there was so much stuff in that tranny. He set all the parts on the table then left with the case. Brian came in and started taking parts and throwing them in the trash and stacking the bigger parts in the pile of other used parts. I can't say I saw Brian use a part from the originals. He has shelves of parts and started grabbing things that he had made and started getting them ready for the install. He showed me his new parts compared to the parts he took out of the trans and the parts looked better to me. (like I would know ). Brian didn't rebuild my tranny, he built me a new one. He put all the parts in once the case came back all cleaned and painted. He changed everything on the outside also. New trans pan, new plug harness, new sensor, new bypass line, new dipstick tube. He asked me if it would be ok to work through lunch to get me back on the road faster, I was happy with that. I was headed home at 2:30 that afternoon.

I could tell a huge difference as soon as I put the truck in gear. With Brian in the co-pilot seat , I backed on the road and put it in D, let off the brake and the truck started going up the incline without me pushing the pedal. We went for a drive and after a while I asked Brian how I should break the trans in. He said you have around 6 miles on it now so the air is out and you can drive it like you want to. I asked how many miles before I can go WOT? He said, you can do what ever you want to do with it, you can't hurt it. I started testing the tunes and found out I may need to have them tweaked for the shifting on 80e and 140. I tell you that thing is a beast. I would never have thought that it would be so different driving my truck. (in a good way). Getting on or off the gas is so different then before. It is so solid feeling then the original. I had a great time driving home the 600 miles last night. I really can't explain how it feels, but believe me, It's so much better.

I can tell you this, I would never have anyone but Brian build my tranny. If anyone is thinking about doing this, I recommend BTS to the max. His shop is huge and clean.

Mike, to answer your question on why I did this. I really don't think there was anything wrong with my trans, but I have the Diode with 130,000 miles on the truck. I didn't want to be on the side of the road one day and have to haul the truck to Lead Hill to get my tranny built. I thought I felt something a couple times, but it just may be me wanting a new trans.

Thanks everyone at BTS.

I did bring my camera, but I felt that Brian would not have liked me taking pics of his parts and process.

Congrats on the trans. Would love to take a ride in a truck w/ a BTS in it to feel the difference everyone talks about.

Rick, i know the feeling with the exception of being there when Brian built my trans. There is nothing like this trans, IMO. Im sure John Wood builds a great tranny, but I recommend Brian to everyone. I couldnt be happier with my transmission and it shifts like a dream with the 250cc hybrids i got. I do not worry about breaking this trans when i get on it WOT. if it breaks, i know i will be taken care of.

Great story Rick. I want to make another trip out there sometime (my mother in law lives about an hour from BTS) and would love to have Brian poke around with my unit if he felt it was necessary. There's absolutely nothing wrong with my tranny though, it runs just as good as the day I got it four years ago.
