" Ford NEVER EVER put a 460 in an 79 F150, had to be put in by a previous owner". That is what I was told at our Canadian Tire in Greenwood , that was 15 years ago, the same idiot is still pushin parts there and I haven't bought a car part there since 1995 and won't till they raise the quality of thier parts people. The same clown a month before fought with me over a P.S. belt from a 89 Mustang. I pulled out the 4 cyl, put in a very nice 351 W and needed a belt, brought the old one with me and asked for the same size belt. He insisted I tell him what type of car it was for cause the computer needed to know. I told him that the car was moded and the engine configuration never came in this car so the computer would not help but he looks up the car anyway, looks at my belt and tells me that thae belt I have is not for that car, he says " you have a V groove and the car taked a serpentine type"-----------------I left and went to NAPA where they know how to measure a belt.
2ndpicture is of my new drive line that i got next to my old one, the dia was wrong and also had weird joint on the end. First picture is of the carrier bearing out
all engine pictures, could you tell me if it is a 360 that is on the title that comes with the truck or if they swaped the motor and put a 390 in it.
Pictures of the motor are kinda bad but blame that on the Iphone
well the grey one is as long as it like 50 and 1/4 inchs so its not for the front. i think im just gonna have the local drive line shop fix it for $430
The front axel i couldnt see any numbers on it on the front or rear. so i dont know, maybe i have to take a wire brush to it.
These are the rear axel, took my drive shaft down to a local driveline place and the guy charged me 230 much better then 430. but as soon as we walked in the guy said is that to a older chevy. So he said maybe the rear end is a dana 60. Sorry the picture is upside down. the numbers are 3k15, and 79135 i think.
These 2 Are the transfer case, can someone help me see what it is. The numbers are C11415.
Just wanted to say thank you for everyone helping me. i just dont know where i would start to look for all the info.
If the guy can't tell the difference between a Ford 9 inch and a Dana 60.......I would not let him even touch my driveshaft. I'm no Supercab expert. But that "looks" live a CV head behind your carrier bearing. If so, that "weird joint" would have been the correct one for your truck. Was the length the same as your old driveshaft?
Anyways, judging from the pictures, I'm guessing your wondering what axles you have. Front: high pinion Dana 44 Rear: 31 spline Ford 9 inch.
no no the guy said that the drive shaft came from a chevy. and he was a older guy that realy new his stuff. plus they charged my 230 instead of 430 to rebuild it so he can touch it all day lol and thanks for the axle info. and whats a cv head? it was a little shorter but the bolt pattern for the back didnt match it was a 1/2 inch off if i lined up one side.
Your yoke did not line up because yokes are very different from a double cardan and a single joint.
A guy might find it difficult to identify a drive shaft for a chevy or a ford or any other manufacturer for that matter. This is difficult because a drive shaft knows not what it is in, it only knows that it gets bolted between a pair of yokes.
All manufacturers used spicer components, and each shares similar u-joint styles, even though there are several variables.
In This case, I would have probably found a single cardan joint, and a one piece driveshaft to assemble this truck and be done with it.
Does the drive shaft work now? Does it fit?
By the way, you have a Np 205 transfer case.
Difficult to identify by looking at the huge pics of a number that makes no sense to me. Im not a number guy, but I can spot the tell tale signs of a Np205.
mmm im not to sure but the good news is the guy rebuilt my d-shaft in under a day. installed and the shimmy went away! drove it home from a firends house for the very first time and i love it. thank you for everyone that helped me! hopefully this helps someone else out!
@75f350 thank you for the info im gonna start right everything down.
@gearged1971 im guessing its 3 1/2 cuz the inside measure from the bridge that holds the u joint to the other bridge is 3 and 3/16
