I have a 1992 F-150 with 5.0 and AEOD auto trans. The transmission is starting to really slip bad.I've had the fluid & filter changed, still no help.My question,I also have a 1994 F-150 with 4.9 inline 6 and auto trans. Is there a possibility that the trans in the 94 would work?I know one is a V-8 the other a 6 and it may not match up.Thanks for the help.
I just got an email from a guy who has an AODE trans from a 1994 crown victoria with only 85000 miles. It has been removed and he is selling it very reasonable. If this one would interchange,it may be my best option.I wish that I had more knowledge of transmissions so I would'nt have to ask so many questions. Thanks
The tranny from the crown vic ain't gonna work, it has a 4.6 V8 in it, completely different bellhousing bolt pattern. No problem on the questions! That's the only way to learn something that you don't know about! I'm on here asking questions all the time!
Thanks for the reply and it only makes sense that a trans bolted to a 4.6 would not work on a 5.0,but that raises the question, how can a trans from an inline 4.9 work on the 5.0?I really do appreciate the help.
You can also use an AODE or 4R70W trans (same trans, different name depending on year) from a 4.2L V6, that motor has the same bolt pattern as the 300/302/351W.
because the 4.6l v8 is a modular ohc engine with a different tranny bolt pattern whereas the 4.9 I6 and the 5.0 v8 are older ohv pushrod engines
to clearify you can use a tranny from a 300 I-6, 302 V8, or a 351w. I'm not sure on the capability with the years but I know the older C6 that are in the late 80's trucks like mine will have problems with computer compatability i think. Keep in mind though that a 4x4 tranny will not work in the 4x2 trucks and vise-versa... unless you really want to change out the tail housing of the tranny with your old one... you didn't say whether your trucks are 4x4 or 4x2 so thought i would throw that in... you might just want to google search images of the AODE and 4R70W online so you know what they look like. just incase you find another one some where else that you want to use. Another option that i have suggested before is to talk with your local parts store guys. Often you will find guys capable of rebuilding the tranny (in their spare time) you have for about the same as a used one. Then at least you know what you have rather than trusting a 1/2 worn out junk yard or 2nd had tranny. Just a thought!
Hey guys,I just found out that the 94 F-150 with the I-6 had the transmission put in it only 60000 miles ago and it was installed by a very reputable trans shop in our local town.If that trans will fit my 92 with the 5.0 V-8,I'm going to be one happy guy. Thanks
