Correction! Heres what we have so far! The blue wire pointed at by the red arrow is (for sum reason) grounded to my distributor, the hot air assist is connected to nothing (!), and the choke is stuck like you said because according to my textbook (grandfather), it sounds like my choke rod is rust to hell. What to do from here buddy?

Well, the blue wire may not be for the electric assist, so don't take my word for that, it's certainly not original. Leave it where it is. The hot air part of the choke can be fixed for $15 if you have the tools to bend and flare soft copper tubing. If not you can buy a "choke stove kit" that should serve the same purpose, or just convert it to manual, or full electric operation.

As far as the rust and such, rusted doesn't mean broken. I betcha you can get it all working properly if you take it all apart and clean all the rust off of it.

Ask your grandfather if he's got the tools to flare and bend 1/8" soft copper. If not, just get a choke stove kit, or don't worry about that part of it just yet. You can always do that later. As for cleaning, get a carb cleaning kit. It will probably be the most expensive thing you buy. It just looks like a gallon paint can. It has a basket that you can submerge parts in and it'll clean everything right up.

This is a tuning or carb calibration problem. While a choke can present a problem, it is not the entire dilemma.
Remember that most performance carbs dont even have a choke horn. Im running several Demon carbs that dont have chokes, or even choke horns, and we run these in the snow when temps are quite low. maybe not as low as some places, but these things sit for months at a time and fire right up as well as stay right at a comfortable idle.

There is a tuning problem with this thing.

When I first got my truck the choke wasn't doing anything. It had been sitting for months but when we did finally get it started, we didn't have any trouble. I drove it for a week or so without a choke at all, it was just a lot more tempermental when cold.

I agree, I don't think the choke is the whole problem, rather just a part.
