EBPS question

Hello everyone,
What exactly does the EBP sensor do and does it really need to be there? I have deleted both the back pressure valve on the turbo ped and also the butterfly in the exhaust, seems to me that I no longer need it. Is this true? Thanks in advance.

Dan

The sensor monitors exhaust backpressure to control the opening and closing of the EBPV in cold weather conditions.

If you remove the sensor completely, you will trigger a code. On some trucks, it will also keep the CEL illuminated. Basically you can leave the sensor in place, and you should be fine.

I thought the EBPS (on the front of the block) is pretty important, especially for your mileage?

I like it so I can watch the exh back pressure on my Scan Gauge... Some have claimed mileage changes after cleaning the tube.

EDIT: What *COULD* be happening is that folks have had broken or leaky tubes, and after replacing them, gaining a little mileage (due to fixing an exhaust leak), but I honestly don't see how just cleaning a plugged tube would change MPGs.

Nope.

Mine is actually still plugged into the electrical wiring, but is non-functional. A few years ago I pulled the sensor out of the tube, stuck a plug in the tube, and put a cap on the end of the sensor, then zip tied it to a secure place. Mileage didn't budge, zero difference in power, no changes in smoke, nothing.

Cody (Cleatus) posted a tidbit not too long ago that I plan to try. It's in regards to the EBP and tuning tweaks to eliminate trouble codes for those who have deleted their EBPV. Once I try it, I'll have to post back if it works. Just gotta find time to tweak the tunes on my truck again. Seems like I never have enough time to play with my toys.

I deleted my EBPV with a blank pedestal. I just zip tied the unconnected wire to some other wires. Was I supposed to do something with the EBPS or the tube?
