Yup. IMO, the E4OD has one of the best limp modes out there because of how the system is arranged. Once in a while I still hear some one say limp mode for an E4OD is 2nd gear in drive

(that would be correct for the AOD-E which is completely different)

Yes, manual 2nd. And I agree, it is not what I expected. Having the TC fully lock out in 2nd is really helpful towing heavy on hill, especially from a dead stop.

Well yeah, cause you got 3.55s and a turbo - me being n/a with 4.10s, I like the loose converter in 2nd, I only lock in 3rd and 4h. Actually I can lock in 2nd too, cause my converter is on a switch, but I never felt the need to do so...

Great thread. I have a 1994 F350 CC/LB 4x4 E40D with a swapped in 95 12V Cummins.

Just ordered the Baumann, as the tranny flat doesn't shift right. My understanding is that the E40D was programmed for a non-powerstroke 7.3 which revs higher than the cummins. I'm in overdrive at 20 mph???

My questions have to do with literally how to hook up the Baumann. I ordered the harness, but am still a little unclear about what hooks up to what? Where are the wires that I am supposed to hook into? Yes, I am sure that is a stupid question, but help....

Thanks in advance.

You have power and ground, speedo (just plugs in) and TPS which you may have to fiddle with for the Cummins. Those are the basics and for more features there's more wiring, like the Normal/Tow program switch (very cool) and the "manual" shifting using the CC buttons on the steering wheel. Really pretty simple.

They have some instructions on the website here:
TCS full harness Information - Baumann Electronic Controls, LLC

Most of the electrical is plug & play other than the 4 wires mentioned near the bottom of the page.

This is shown for the AODE transmission but the electrical configuration is basically the same. Range sensor, speed sensor, and hookup for the solenoid pack. If you ordered a wiring harness, all those quick connects should already be in it.

Thanks guys. I know this is dumb.... but, do I find the places I need to connect to ON the tranny itself? Or up under the dash somewhere? That would save me several hours of crawling around. And yeah, I know it's a stupid question.

Everything on the trans just plugs in, takes about a minute. The TPS and everything else will need to be wired in.

There are not dumb question, only the ones you didn't ask.

Welcome to the forum, BTW!

that would be slick right there!
use the main one while empty for early shift points/economy but when hauling, switch to the second setup for latter shift points to keep her rpms up.sweet.

400 bucks, ouch.do you ever see these gems used anywhere?

haha oh man,it wires up so you can switch between modes using your cruise buttons for a clean install.so cool.

LOL I know I'll never sell mine and I doubt many others would. I don't think I've ever seen a used one anywhere.

Its harder to justify the expense if you are already using a truck with a factory equipped E4OD. I was upgrading from a C6 so either way I was going to spend some money to get the control systems in there.

Oh and it doesn't switch between shifting modes using the cruise, it can shift gears using the cruise buttons. Although I was never able to get mine to work. Probably the crappy contacts on the slip rings in the steering column throwing things out of whack. Maybe some day I'll try to get it to work.

The shift table switching is done by adding an extra switch. In the case of a 4wd, you can use that for your low range although I found that by the time I am in 2nd gear low range, I really don't need low range anymore.
