What do you guys know about BALDWIN Filters?? Theres a guy here in Omaha selling 4 baldwin fuel filters for a 83-87 6.9 for $12 and 6 Baldwin air filters for $25. Second off will the 6.9 Fuel filters fit my 7.3?? Thanks Guys!
I'll state it this way ...
If you have a 7.3 style fuel filter head, the center hole size is 1" using 14 TPI.
If you have a 6.9 style fuel filter head, the center hole size is 7/8" using 14 TPI.
Ok, looks like i'll get the air filters then and leave the fuel filters behind...great deal though, the air filters have the foam liner on the outside which i've never used so i'll give them a shot! They can't be that bad seeing as how i have a fram in there now and can almost see through the filter so the foam must have to catch more dust and junk. Thanks for the input guys! FTE KICKS @$$!!
Oreo, they are fuel filters, not oil filters. Oil filters are the same on all the IDI's, the fuel filters changed though. I suspect it changed with the water separator, which wasn't actually at the same time as the change from 6.9 to 7.3 if I recall correctly from another thread. The earlier 6.9's were a straight filter with the water being a different unit on the firewall. Later (mostly 7.3's) when the separator was eliminated, it then became a water separator/filter in one unit.
86 and older truck, water seperator on the firewall, small filter nipple for the fuel filter.
87 6.9 and all of the 7.3 had the new style water seperator/fuel filter combo, no seperator on the firewall.
I get all my filters very cheap. I never pay more than 9.50 for the fuel filter on my truck. Most of the time I use wix or luberfiner filters. Check out Discount oil filters H&S Industries - Lodi, WI
I have used a few Baldwin filters over the years. Only use Baldwin for my coolant treatment on my 93' F250 these days. They work great.
I use the extra large 2 micron Racor Filters R60S for fuel filtration (you will need to change the filter bracket to do this)
I also have been buying the extra long oil filters (FRAM PH-3786 instead of PH-3766, sorry Dave S., I know how much you loath those FRAM Filters) I figure for the two extra bucks why not go for the oil fiters they use on the Powerstroke Diesels, less pressure drop, more flow, more filtering areas.
excellant information guys, i was wondering though...i've tried to use the powerstroke oil filter (valvoline) on my truck once and the threads and hole was completely different, so is there something i've got to change out before i can run the powerstroke filters?
