Glad I kept my old muffler and cat when I deleted it a few years ago. Looks like I'll have to put it back on when I renew my tags in December.

they check to see if your truck is a cat or a on-cat vehicle. mine is a non cat
then they did a snap test. That a quick rev to 3000 RPM and see if any exaust is visable. thats it for a diesel smog test.
how they did the visable test is one person reved the motor, and one person looked at the tail pipe.

I see smog station charging $39 for test on gasers involving testing the tank cap and have the car do the roll test at different speeds.
How-come they charge $50 for visual only on diesel?

Because California has a corrupt state government, and they licensed the smog stations to help collect much-needed funds. I wonder just what percentage the locals have to kick back to the state for the privilege of fleecing us for the fifty bucks?
Since there are fewer diesel vehicles, they can get away with it. Imagine if they suddenly increased it for gassers? The public outcry would cause some politicos to lose their jobs. We sure wouldn't want THAT, would we?
