so what all was involved in the smog test? what did they look for and what did they do?
they hooked up their smog computer to the trucks. They are looking for error codes. im not sure how the could know if you had a program on it but I errased my progran and put the truck back to stock.
they check to see if your truck is a cat or a on-cat vehicle. mine is a non cat
then they did a snap test. That a quick rev to 3000 RPM and see if any exaust is visable. thats it for a diesel smog test.
how they did the visable test is one person reved the motor, and one person looked at the tail pipe.
and the last part of the test
pay $50
I see smog station charging $39 for test on gasers involving testing the tank cap and have the car do the roll test at different speeds.
How-come they charge $50 for visual only on diesel?
Because California has a corrupt state government, and they licensed the smog stations to help collect much-needed funds. I wonder just what percentage the locals have to kick back to the state for the privilege of fleecing us for the fifty bucks?
Since there are fewer diesel vehicles, they can get away with it. Imagine if they suddenly increased it for gassers? The public outcry would cause some politicos to lose their jobs. We sure wouldn't want THAT, would we?
Sometimes, there's safety in attacking minorities. Surprise, this time YOU'RE it!

It's 39 for the test. But you have to add the cost of the certificate too.
