Ok...here's my scenerio. I have a set of Cobra Jet connecting rods (DOOE) and have heard that these are the strongest factory rods for the 429. I'm building a 429 that's been bored out .060 and plan on having everything upgraded with HP goodies. My question is....should I reuse these CJ rods or should I upgrade them also to an aluminum or forged rod?? I'm projecting the power out put to be around 450-500 hp and 550-600 ft. lbs. tq. Thanks in advance!!
Add ARP bolts to your CJ rods and then have them resized...they will then be able to handle 500 HP and spin to 6500 RPM max. If you want to spin higher than that you'll need to go to forged rods. Do not purchase aluminum rods unless your engine is strictly "race-only", even then you'll need to replace the rods at least every-other season. Deen
Are you sure thay are CJ rods? They are only CJ/SCJ rods if they have the football head rod bolts. I've got a set of D0OE rods that are just stock pass. car rods with square headed bolts.
I believe the strongest 429 rod in 6.605 center to center length would be the 429 Boss 820-T rods, casting C9AE-B's. They look pretty much the same as CJ D0OE and Truck D6VE rods with the exception in weight (bit heavier) and small difference in rod bolts. I believe all 429 and 460 rods are forged.
