429 rocker arm nuts and bent pushrods

429 stud rocker arm locking nuts

Does anyone out there have some locking nuts for dove-c heads. They are 1970 429 heads and I need about 6 rocker arm locking nuts in the worst way.
If no one has any for sale where can I find them?

I also need some infoI have a 460 with the dove-c 429 heads. I,m bending push rods. I think it,s because of the bad locking nuts. Also it is wearing out the rocker arms on the valve stem end. I had the valve springs tested and they were weak so I,ve got new springs , keepers and 10 degree locks now and some new rocker arms.
I,m not turning any rpm,s (just street driving. At 2200 rpm I hav 62 lbs of oil pressure. I,m running a small comp cams 256 hyd cam with 514 lift. Am I pumping up the lifters and bending the push rods or what?

Thanks

I have the same heads and I went to the parts store and bought 3/8 sbc rocker nuts.....real cheap. I have also heard that the cast rail style rocker arms that you are using are good for a max of around .525 lift( I believe.... don't hold me to that), and that your rockers would hit your valve springs, maybe causing your stress cracks if hitting. Is .514 your int. or exh. or are they the same?

Your not running later model pushrods are you? They are longer than the ones required for the DOVE heads.

hey shelby, i am in the process of doing the same thing right now as we speak. i looked in the catalog for a 1970 lincoln with a 460 and found out that the push rods are longer than the ones for my '77 460. as for the nuts look them up as a DORMAN Product part number they are about $1.35 each and come in a box of ten sorry i dont have the part number left receipt in other car.

Ditch the cast rocker arms. Now! Go to your local speed shop (..or Jegs, or Auto Zone, or wherever) and get a set of good ol' stamped steel long-slot BB Chevy rocker arms and studs. You will also need a set of pushrod guide plates and some hardened pushrods. This will solve your problem for under $200 and you can do the swap in about an hour if your valve covers are easy to get to.

The Chevy studs will screw in just like they were made for your 429 and the long slot rockers will eliminate binding (which is probably why you are bending pushrods). You will probably also pick up a little lift at the valve as the BBC rockers have a teensy bit better ratio than the 429 stockers did.

What happens after he spends all the money if he later finds out the heads have been rebuilt & they never shaved the valves which caused them to bend ?

I suppose they would still be fine if he went & got the valves tended to.

Shaved the valves? Thats a new one on me! Shave or plain the heads, deck the block, seat the valves...........but what process are you refering to as "Shave the valve" and what does it take to do this? Machine the valve stem the same amount to you took off the head? You machine the flat on the tulip to get away from the piston? I have always had adjustable valve trains, never messed with a stock non-adjustable head. I have never had to shave/machine a valve, or ever heard of it.
(BTW: I am not challanging you, just asking so I know what this is)

Brad I agree I ran the the stock cast rockers and 6500 rpm will eat them up in a hurry.I am getting ready to new harland sharp BBF rockers on Dove-c heads. Just curious if I will run into problems just replacing stock studs with new studs and guideplates without milling the heads down? And is there anyway stock valve covers will clear? ....Double gaskets?
