Did somebody need cowl vent linkage here on the forum? Or is my memory failing me? I found one in great shape if anyone recalls who it was.

Hey 'fenders, it was (and still is) me, your buddy from the far east. E-Mail me off line what you have. Can you send a pic, too ? Thanx a lot.

OK, 'fenders got the linkage for me. Now I just need these two hinges which are hold in place by rivets (as I learned from this unfamous songwriter). Anyone's got a parts truck behind his house and would let me have these hinges (details to be discussed, no need for shipment half around the world). Thanx Thanx Thanx

Kai,
I am going to have to stick my head under the dash and see what these things look like. I'm sure I have them, but, you guessed it-they are in Kansas! And you guessed it again, after Memorial Day!

Let me know if 'fenders can't find these for you (or anyone else) I will grab a complete cowl vent assembly.

BTW, I think you are on to something, though. If you keep 'fenders busy looking for parts, maybe he won't have time to write anymore songs!

Kai needs the two cowl vent hinges that are spot welded to the dash and pivot on a rivet. Not the handle/linkage etc. Going to have to come off a junk truck.

Now how did you lose them in the first place Kia? I know, it was 18 years ago.

'fenders, ... not only that I lost these hinges, but I also lost my memory over the years ...

Guess the answer is that this truck was in the hand of some "Brits" before I bought it. The same ones who ripped the wiper assy out and mounted that odd Lucas thing. Fortunately they left the 9" in place and did not put me one of these ugly Jag rear ends in. They probably had no freakin clue what these hinges were all about and dumped them ... Good to know that they are now having a shop over on your side of the big pond and mess with cars in Florida.

Hey, prior to my planned vacation in California I will very likely make another trip to the beautiful Rockford, Ill. for business. I am with customers and I am not sure if I will be able to make it to your house. We'll see.... Flipping pages in the new Summit catalog right now. Guess I will order some goodies and have 'em shipped to my buddies house to pick up and carry to the far east (Germany that is) ...

"The same ones who ripped the wiper assy out and mounted that odd Lucas thing."

That is more than likely the explanation. The hinges are spot welded in fairly close to the wiper linkage. There is no good reason to remove them. Even if you welded the cowl shut the hinges would not be in the way.

You could do like the p o did to my '48 - the vent mechanism had been ripped out and the cowl vent lid was screwed to the cowl with panhead screws. Looked just wonderful.

One great advantage over the stock setup - it sure didn't leak when it rained.

I found one complete at a junk yard, pulled it out and re-installed it in my truck. That's when I knew why they screwed it shut. Since then I've learned to drive with my right foot twisted at a funny angle so I can push the gas pedal and keep the river from running in my shoe when it rains hard. Have fun with it Kai.....

Kai,
when you are going to be in Rockford, let me know. I am about 90 miles from there. Maybe we can get together for a beer (mine cold, yours warm?). Also let me know what parts you smuggling back and maybe I can help. Find the parts, not pack creatively.

Talking Cowl Linkage

truckfarmer, ... cool, 90 miles into which direction ??? Which city ??? 'fender's is also somewhere in that area.

Right now the plan is to fly into Chicago on Mar 9. I have meetings at my dear mother company in Rockford on Mar 10 and 11. Those days I will be with customers (from Germany), but I plan on staying one more day (i.e. Mar 11) and then fly back home. Nothing firm yet, but the beer thing could only be on Mar 11. Hey, Germans also drink beer cold. It is the Brits who like warm beer. But what can you expect from people who drive on the left side. They say right is wrong and left is right. Sounds all wrong to me, so.

... almost forgot to ask. 'fender has got the linkage. Who has got the hinges ???
