Hey,
I am having a problem trying to figure out how to fix this cowl.
It is on a '76.The truck was wrecked in the front and the hood smacked th cowl on the drivers sided buckling it and kicked the side out about a inch!
I do paint/body work all the time and am fairly knowedgeable with sheet metal but this one has me stumped. This is alot of bends and curves and the entire cowl is sticking out past the fender.
If anyone has fixed this damage before i would appreciate any help.
Thanks!
YEah,I use to moderate that forum.I just wanted a answer from a few i know that mosly post here.
I know FTE very well.Been here since '99.
Thanks for tryin' to help.
ANybody do this??
Jason, How far are you from Durham NC, I have a cab That is good in that area that is waiting to be picked up for scrap. If you want it to cut the pieces and put them in your truck let me know (quickly). The floor was rotted, and it had nearly perfect cab mounts that I cut off but the rest of the cab is high grade. My E-address is below.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
John,
Thanks alot.BUT!I am in Kansas.I found all the spot welds and could remove that side and slice it but i am interested in some technics maybe?Or i will have to figure it out myself.
Thanks anyway
I asked my old man and he say if the cab is still on the truck, at the point of impact on your cowl, drill a hole for at least a 3/8 eye bolt and get a small comealong (which is a small hand winch) and find a hook-up spot on the frame, tree, etc and pull out your damage. It may take a few angles of mounting the eye bolt to pull the damage out. The trick is to reverse what the orginal damage was and not compound by improperly placing the eye bolt.
not trying to be too peronal blue, but were in KS are you? I'm in the KC Metro Area and have thought of trying to link some of us together, to maybe swap parts,or help. Just a thought
Thanks for the idea '78.That could be seriously looked into.
tongie,
I live in rural Atchison county.Ever go to the Lawrence swap meet?Or should i say the Chevy swap meet!
I go ever year and have alot of '67-72 stuff i need to sell.
Am going to the Woodlands swap meet this year also.
I go down to KCIR ever year for the Chrysler Classic.
I don't know if this is the route you want to take, but when I have repaired any cowl or crush damage area. I would weld a meltal plate to a used muffler clamp. Then weld the metal plate to the damged area(brass weld for easy cleanup and less heat) Then through the muffler clamp you can hook up a chain or comealong and pull the damaged area out with some body massaging and some heat to get it back to where it should be. Had to do this on one truck I had in the past. Something struck the cowl at the side. I have a 66 truck that the cowl is damaged from possibly an engine banged into it on exchange.
This is one way I have fixed body lines and areas like door posts with no major replacement being done. Although you still have do touch up work afterwards.
let me guess Alvy Wise? If so you will be in heaven, LOTS of junk. I even found a bed for my 55 f-250 and a fender for my 42 1/2 ton there, the place is great!!!! He has lots of 67-72 Fords, relatively speaking
