modified up-pipe

ok If i get one of the up pipes (sneaky pipes) is that all i need to do? I am saying what else is part of doing one of these up-pipes? Or is it better to just run a plug in the pipe and weld her shut?

If you have the resources you can modify your own pipe. Here is the before and after all in one picture of how I did mine. The finished pipe is above with the piece removed welded shut which is used to block off the EGR cooler. I roll the turbo out, unbolt the up pipes and ****** the whole assembly out the top.

patrikky, cut that little tube that branches off to the side and weld a metal plate over the hole.

I just drove a freeze plug into the hole. Took about 5 minutes. Then installed it as before. Of course getting it out and back in took me almost 4 hours.

Doesn't the 'scoop' in the up-pipe restrict flow to the turbo?
Seems like you'd want that out.

The 04 the original poster has doesn't have the scoop in the up pipe, so you can actually just drive a plug into the pipe feeding the cooler.

Thats right, mine had no scoop. The freeze plug was $.75. But getting that pipe out was a pain. I also passed my smog with flying colors.
