New 300?
New 300?
so one of my buddies got in a wreck yesterday. hes got a 95 f150 300, and audi hit him doin about 90. the frame is bent so hes totaling the truck. he offered me some parts for it including the engine. it is in great working order with only 116,000 miles. mine has 191,000 and a lifter is tapping. he said about 500 for the motor. think i should get it?
if i did buy it i would build it up first (p&p, cam, rockers, etc) think it would be worth it? the best part is i would be able to drive my truck while im building the other engine up.
any suggestions?
thanks,
kevin

You are right...that is the best part. If you were to run it as-is, not a bad price I would say. It you build it first, a good core for building can probably be had for less.

Thats really high especially if you are going to build before installing. Around here runners can be found for about $200-$300 and cores for scrap price. The EFI motors seem to bring less than the carbed ones for some reason too.

well, we only talked for a few minutes and he just threw a number out there, im sure he will go lower. im gonna talk to him again once he hears back from the insurance company
If you can't see it run, keep in mind that many crash engines,if hit hard enough, can have a broken oil pump or other damage. Many yrs ago,I bought a Pontiac 389 engine with only 35k on it,great deal, but when I pulled the pan,to change it to fit my GTO,it had the oil pump snapped off, because of the weight hanging on the thinner part, could not stand the inertia from the wreck.Might be a bargaining point.Maybe there are some other goodies you can get, everything costs if you need it down the road.
it still runs, i saw the truck today. it was "driveable" as in it would move, but like i said the frame was bent. plus i know the guy and his son really well. hes never steered me wrong before. i didnt talk price yet with him cause he is still waiting to hear back from the insurance company. if he goes down on the price i think it will be a great deal. i might try to get the tranny off him too.
