a friend has asked me to build his engine in his 94 f150. its got 258,000 miles on it and the pistons fell right out the block, its so wore out. we are going 30 over with keith black flat tops, ford small chamber heads, stock fuel injection. hes wanting a little cam in the truck, so im looking to find a ford motorsports b303, e303 or a holcomb 1087 camshaft. ( http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~partsort ) now my question is will those small cams work ok with the factory fuel injection or will we have idle problems. hes looking to find a good used cam cause hes on a tight budget and the only one we found is the 1087 revised. i cant be reached at kenneth_rivenbark@yahoo.com , kenneth_rivenbark on yahoo im, or write me here. any help would be greatly appreicated.
Flat tappet or roller motor? If roller look for a used 5.0HO cam. If flat tappet try the one I'm running..see sig line. Cam needs to have 114 deg lobe center angle to work with SD EFI, and dur@0.05" less than 220.
The FMS cams don't work with speed density very well because they don't produce enough vacuum at idle/lower RPM's; the ECU goes nuts and the engine will surge.
Since you're doing complete rebuild, why not use a custom grind cam?
Yeah those cams stink anyway...I duno why but it seems like everyone gravitates towards them because they're offered by ford but they're not even that good, esp for a truck.
The cam is the most important decision of the engine and I always recommend a custom cam unless it's a straightforward build.
If it's a 94 315 block, it will be a roller ready block. Look for the F4TE casting numbers next to the starter. Comp Cams lists an EFI cam for it. P/N # 35-349-8.

Where are you going to order the rebuild kit for his truck at?
