What fluid or oil should i be putting in my Transmission? It is a 96 4.0 manual 4x4. Is it just automatic tranny fluid? Mercron or Mercron V? What are options for synthetic?
Ok. I went with Mobile 1 synthetic. I have it in the transmission now. My shifting is still stiff. It feels like I have to wait all day for the syncros to catch up on 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Is this just a ranger thing?
there is indeed a mobil 1 a.t.f. and i have used 5w 30 motor oil in mine before with no problems. my favorite fluid for the M5OD manual trans is pennzoil syncromesh fluid. its about 7-8 bucks a qt at autozone. that all being said the proper fluid is mercon atf. just dont put 80-90 gear lube in. that will indeed ruin a trans.

and there is a certain way it will like to be driven. once you figure it out you'll be good to go. on mine i absolutely cannot downshift without double clutch rev matching. upshifts i sometimes do that as well, but usually when i am driving normal and taking it easy i granny shift it, but in a certain controlled manner and my shifting happens within a certain timing.
