E4OD fluid any recommendations?
Ok well I'm picking up a new filter from for to hopefully fix my tranny issues. What ATF fluid do you guys recommend? I know it calls for mercron. The ford dealers all have the mercron v fluid but said the v isn't needed just mercron. So any brand or whatever recommendations? I have quakerstate dexron/mercron at in there now that is about a month old from when I changed the filter and installed my shift kit but used an aftermarket filter and have been having stalling issues lately and getting a ford filter is the only thing I haven't done that has been suggested to me yet.
Should I just Re use the fluid?
Any suggestions would be great...

You would not have got the most of it out. Probably only around 7qts of the 16qts that are in there. So I think I would discard the fluid you are now going to drain (probably 5-6qts) and add new Dexron/Mercron spec fluid. That would mean that you would have changed a fair part of the fluid.

Torque converter holds The rest of the 16-18 quarts total.
Do not use mercon V fluid ever in an E4OD UNLESS its ford mercon V its compatible with the merc/dex.
But trans fluid brands are just like oil brands. Everyone has their opinions.
I personally will be swapping to tractor hydro fluid in my trans. Synthetic is too expensive for 18 quarts for me.
If your fluid is new and looks good just reuse it.

My truck wants to stall when put in reverse
This may or may not be accompanied by irraddic idle and/or codes. If no codes are found pull the IAC (Idle Air Control) sensor and clean/replace as needed.
Here is an IAC cleaning writeup

Another potential problem is that the transmission filter may have dropped into the pan. This is easy enough to fix. Remove pan, reinstall filter, fill with fluid.
There is a clip made that will help hold the filter in place since from the factory the filter is only held in by the o-ring. Look 3/4 of the way down this page.
E4OD, 4R100 Transmission from PATC, E4OD, 4R100
It looks like this:
There is also a magnet from Ford that works as a filter retainer. p/n F3RZ-7E290-AC

what makes you feel your engine stall is not engine related, but transmission related instead?
please post your source as to why Mercon V fluid by other brands meeting Mercon V specs is inadequate.

It started stalling only when shifted into reverse at first. Then drive and reverse and now even when I stop at a light. The motor hasn't given me any issues.
I had installed a b&m stage 2 shift kit prior to any issues and found the shifting to be too harsh for my liking. I dropped the pan and change out the stage 2 springs for the stage 1 springs In the kit.
I had to remove the filter to remove the valve body to change springs. The shifting didn't seem to change much between the different springs. That was all about 2 months ago. The truck is a weekend vehicle so doesn't go far. The truck starts and idles greatin park and neutral. As soon as it go into gear now it stumbles and dies.
A few guys have said if the filter falls out of place it can cause this issue.
Do you have any other suggestions I should look at before I put another 75$ filter in the tranny if it isn't the problem?
I was thinking possibly TPS?
The IAC tested good.
Motor has recent 6liter tune up as well.

If it's backwards compatible (most new fluids are) you should have no problem running the newest iteration of Mercon. If you have an E4OD there is a TSB regarding this problem.

ISSUE:
Some vehicles may stall when the transmission is placed into gear. This may be caused by the transmission fluid filter becoming detached and/or loose.
ACTION:
Install a rectangular fluid pan magnet under the transmission fluid filter to keep the filter in place and reduce the possibility of the filter becoming loose. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Follow all the normal diagnostic procedures outlined in the appropriate model/year Service Manual. Repair as required. If all normal diagnostics fail to correct the problem, refer to the following Steps.
1. Remove the transmission fluid pan to determine if the transmission fluid filter has dropped down or is not firmly seated in the pump bore.
2. If the filter is not firmly seated in the pump bore or falls down into the fluid pan when the pan is removed, place the rectangular Transmission Pan Magnet (F3RZ-7E290-AC) on the pan at the location shown in Figure 1.
NOTE : DO NOT REMOVE THE ORIGINAL FLUID PAN MAGNET FROM THE FLUID PAN OTHER THAN TO CLEAN AND REINSTALL.
CAUTION : DO NOT USE THE ORIGINAL FLUID PAN MAGNET TO HOLD THE FILTER IN PLACE. IT IS TOO THICK AND MAY CAUSE A LEAK.
3. Install a new Filter and Seal Assembly (E9TZ-7A098-A).
CAUTION : DO NOT REMOVE AND REPLACE THE REUSABLE PAN GASKET OR REPLACE IT WITH A CORK GASKET, THIS MAY RESULT IN A LEAK CONDITION.
4. Refill transmission as required using MERCON(R) Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) (XT-2-ODX).
