You're right, that won't work for trucks or Excursions.

Dead serious. Do not trust computer readouts alone.

A visual / audible noise check under actual operating conditions is priceless for diagnostics.


FYI, I also instrument parts that are suspected --- with sensors --- and then read them.

You can get cheap sensors for almost anything --- strain gauges, temperature, vibration, cameras from UV to IR, position sensors, etc.

Please take the time to set up your camera and mirrors to take a video of the EGR and/or VGT solenoid operating while you're driving.

What parts do you see moving?

I predict an Academy Award for special effects in your future.

Well, high on the priority list is a thermo image scan of the Turbo as it warms.... and look inside so to speak.

What should I do about reading the codes for free? autozone? Can I buy a obdII plug for my laptop? The truck takes minutes to start when warm now.My egts also got up to 1100 with the ac on. Can I just clean the turbo? What way does the egr move? So I can see if its sticking. When I pulled the egr the intake was clean and dry with carbon on egr.

I see an 05 Excursion for sale in the near future. Where is the cheapest place to get the parts and what parts do I need to clean the turbo? oil larger drain seals etc? The tech page for turbo removal was messed up last I checked. Thanks
