Looking into remote keyless entry for my 2000 f150. I've been trying to find out some information about the Ford keyless entry and so far all I can tell is that the Ford one gives you Ford looking remotes, and the PATS bypass doesn't require you to put your spare key in a box under the dash, as it seems some aftermarket ones do.
However, I was hoping that the Ford one would be less cut and splice, which it appears that not. (just like aftermarket) I was also hoping that I would retain the progressive unlocking, lock confirmation (horn and lights flash on second lock press) and illuminated entry of the factory keyless. But so far as I can tell, it doesn't work in conjuction with the factory keyless, but more of bypasses it with its own keyless entry. (like aftermarket ones do).
Ford also seems to have a premium for their system, even though with a few small exceptions, seems to be as generic as the aftermarket ones.
Anyone with any experience with the ford system, or other remote keyless please give me your input.
I bought a remote keyless entry system for my 02 F150 from A1 Electric in California. They have a killer site at www.A1electric.com. They offer systems that lock and unlock both doors at the same time as well as with horn, parking light, and dome light confirmation options. The two door systems start at $99. The installation is about the same as new speakers and an amp, maybe a little easier. Don't know if that answers your question, but you might find something on their site you like.
