Backwards from the normal question, can you unprogram a keyless entry remote

I bought my 05 Expedition several years ago and it came with a viper remote start keyless entry and literally six Ford remote keyless entry fobs. Some of them are for cars and work and some are for the Expedition.
My sister has a Focus that uses the same keyless entry Fob and is missing hers and would love to give her one of mine but don't want to have it on the same frequency and unlock my truck every time she unlocks her car. It's very easy to find a lot of information on how to program a new keyless entry fob but literally nothing on how or if it's possible to unprogrammed an old one?

Easy, gather the fobs you want to keep/use, minimum 2. Initiate the programming sequence, and program the fobs you want, those will be the only fobs that works with your vehicle. The programming sequence doesn't actually program the fobs themselves, it programs the ID number of each fob in to the PCM. Then you can safely give one fob that you did not add to your vehicle to your sister, and it won't work with yours. You'll have to do the programming bit on her vehicle though, in order to make it work.

Thanks that's exactly what I was wanting to know! You spelled it out better than I did with the PCM needing to relearn and forget the other key fobs.
After helping my sister I'm thinking I'll try programming the others on my 06 F350 that didn't come with any when I bought it used and don't know if it ever had them but maybe they might work.

Unless something has changed that I haven't heard about the keyless entry system retains 6 FOBs in memory. Once you program in a 7th one the first one programmed is deleted, and so on. So if all 6 of yours are programmed in you will get the conflict between the 2 vehicles that you're trying to avoid.

I take that back, I mixed up FOB programming with PATS programming. Every time you program FOBs the memory is wiped clean and you have to program all of them in during the same attempt. Instructions are attached for anyone that needs them.

Same goes for PATS I believe, at least partly. It has a max capacity of holding up to 6 keys. Though, if the user/owner programs (or should I say "add") a new key, it will still hold the old ones. But if you program keys with a scan tool (Ford VCM/IDS or FORScan and Bluetooth adapter), it will wipe all keys and start fresh, and only the ones you then program will work.

I just went and looked it up and it's up to 8 keys, not 6, that will be stored unless the system is first wiped clean and the keys are then programmed from scratch.

Ok, cool. Does that mean it's 8 fobs as well? Seems illogical that it holds 8 keys and only 6 fobs, or are they going for 2 valet keys or something?

We already covered the number of FOBs question, it's 6 FOBs maximum and 8 PATS keys maximum. The FOBs get programmed to the remote security module and the PATS is programmed into the GEM/Computer so I'm sure that's why the programming parameters are different.

Yep, it's just a little weird that they allow 8 keys and only 6 fobs, as you'd expect every key to have a companion fob...

I can't really imagine a need for 6 keys or FOBs, let alone 8.

With a little further though I figure the 6/8 key/FOB difference can be related to the software in these modules being used in different vehicles. There could be another Ford model that only has 6 PATS slots, in which case 6 FOB slots would match up. Of course other models might not have PATS at all, only keyless entry. Who knows what these engineers think sometimes.

Could be as simple as one guy designing the PATS into the PCM thinking 6 keys would suffice, while the other guy designing the VSM figured 8 was a good number of FOBs..
