I have all of my intercooler piping off the truck at the moment so's I can clean them up. I was looking at the intercooler boots and noticed that they look pretty good still (after a good cleaning, of course).
I was looking into possibly replacing the boots, since I have about 115K miles on my 2000 F250. There is a set for sale on the RiffRaff Diesel's website for about $110.00. Is this something I should consider, or will the factory boots continue to work ? Do the factory boots have a tendency to fail ? I have mild upgrades to my truck (i.e. 4" turbo-back exhaust, BullyDog PowerPup Pro Programmer, 6637 Mod) and I pull a 31' 5th wheel from time to time (i.e. move around at the campgrounds, and a 400 mile round trip once or twice a year)
Last thing I want is a failure on the road... What do you guys think ?
I replaced mine at about 145k. They had tiny cracks and little peeled places on the inside where the clamps where. I got mine from Riff Raff too. Great guy and nice boots!
Since I have everything taken apart, I decided I'm just going to order the boots from RiffRaff Diesel...I've heard nothing but good things about them so far. Besides, its always good to replace BEFORE something happens...and you can always use the old ones as a seviceable spare.
Question is; I was looking at RiffRaff's site and was fixing to order them up and noticed there are a couple different sizes 3"x3" and 3"x3.25" My truck has all the stock intercooler items. 2000 F250XLT 4x4. The lower boots seem to be slightly bigger at the intercooler side... I assume 3.25" ?
Just want to be sure before I order them...I'm also going to get the CCV Mod kit from them as well, looks like an easy install
Best thing to do is give Clay a call with your old boots in hand with measurements. I was fortunate last year to be with Clay at his event (RRE09) and we took a look and my lower IC pipe to cooler had 3 inch to 2.50 reduce to it or something that size, he will fix you up.. By the way, at 97,000 mine were starting to get old and brittle, it was piece of mind for me to just replace them, their relatively inexpensive.

Come on, the exercise you get from walking will be good for you while you wait on parts after you break down.
As the others have said, ignore the website and just give Clay a call. His website isn't perfect yet, but if you talk to him, he'll get you taken care of.

I guess I could use a little excercise...lol
I dropped Clay an email a little before 9:00pm last nite and I had a reply and a solution within the hour... I see why eveyone speaks so highly of him, great customer service! I ordered a 6637 cover from him last week and I got it a couple days later. Customer service is very important to me and RiffRaff will be my first choice for diesel stuff from now on.
I'm going to take the IC tubes into work today and try polishing them with a polishing wheel on the bench grinder since I have everything taken apart for the next couple days. I'll take some pics and post them when I'm done
