I installed a dieselsite coolant filter yesterday afternoon and choose to remove the hot side intercooler pipe to ease the install into the heater hose. As I was cleaning the intercooler boots with brake kleen (note: I have the original boots and have never had them blow off!) I found a hole in the turbo boot under the clamp. SUCK! I was going to replace with a stock boot but found that BD Diesel makes an aftermarket boot kit for about $180. Should I go aftermarket or stick with a replacement factory boot.
BTW: From my searches here it looks like my factory boot part number 3C34-6C640-AC has been replaced with 3C34-6C640-FA.
Hey Mike I know you are hoping some members will chime in but my opinion is for the cost why not upgrade them, I am not sure what the dealer is asking for that one boot but if I had to guess it probably close to an hundred bucks anyway. Our BD Boot and Clamp kits are very high quality and are a great value for the cost. You may not have had a boot blow off yet but it is very common, have you considered a CCV mod?
I agree that I may be on borowed time and at risk for a blow off, I am working on a CCV mod to eliminate the oil vapor. Does your intercooler boots work with the stock pipes/intercooler and match up with the locking features and pipe flares?

Yes they do work with the stock i/c and match up with the locking features. Check em out
I see your installation manuals don't include torque specs. Instructions just state to tighten till the spring is compressed. On the stock boots ford is very clear via TSBs as how to set the torque on the boots this is less important on your product? Better design/material?

Better designed clamp... spring loaded.
I know on the price of the kit it is not the biggest savings but there is a 5% member discount available if you are interested.
