I do not have a door tag on my truck, so I was wandering where to look to find out what kind of axles I have in my truck. What codes mean what once i find them?
Also I was looking at my VIN yesterday and noticed that it started with F26 instead of F25. The truck is supposed to be a 74 f250.....I will post the whole VIN on here later and see if we can decifer everything.
Starting with F-26 is a good thing. If it started with F25......then you would have issues. F26 = F-250 4x4, F36 = F-350 4x4, F11 = F-100 4x4......... Unless they have been changed, you have a closed knuckle Dana 44 front and full floating Dana 60 rear. If there is no door tag or sticker, check the tag on the diff cover. If that's not there, try the BOM number. If you can't find that....then I guess you're stuck with the old "spin the tire and count the driveshaft" routine. If you can't figure that out, pop the cover.....the tooth count is stamped on the ring gear.
Yeah if it original it will be a closed knuckle dana 44 HD and the rear will be a full floating dana 60. the gear ratio will be 4:10. I have a 74 F-250 and thats what I have. They should also have a tag on each axle attached to the Diff bolts. some where on it you will see 4 10. I hope this helps.
there are no tags on the axles. already checked that. where exactly are the BOM numbers? the axles are rusty and muddy so knowing exactly where to look would definately help.
