Got a 2001 F-Excursion having same problem for about 6 month . Stop at light go to hit throttle with no response stays in gear at idle. turn on off no change then all of the sudden kicks back in. No fuse blown. any ideas should I change my TPS. thought it was a recall issue but all my recalls have been (repaired speed control sens) ect. Thanks for any Ideas..

The Idle Validation Switch (IVS) in your pedal assembly is probably getting sticky from all the crud that's built up in there.

Instead of shutting it off and re-starting, try a quick-snap pedal depress-and-release a couple of times to see if you can't get that switch to make. That will tell you something, diagnosis-wise.

Three nuts and an electrical connector come loose to allow you to remove the pedal switch assembly. Try blowing it out with compressed air or use some spray-can electrical cleaner, replace, and see what happens.

If that doesn't fix it, they are replaceable, though a little pricey. PartsGuyEd has them pretty reasonable.

It's getting to be a common problem as these trucks see more miles and time.

TPS Issues

I have encountered several of the throttle issues noted above. I took my 99 to the Ford House yesterday and they wanted $619.00 to fix. After getting on this site last night I went into my shop this morning and used the old air hose. The dust flew. The truck ran all day without any problems. I may remove the parts this weekend and do a thorough cleaning.

Jerking

Hey guys I'm new to this site and my truck is jerking really bad. It is a 6-speed and will jerk when I am giving it gas and letting off the gas. Sometimes it will give me a dead spot, and then respond. About a month ago i was going down hill and was coming to a stop sign, put my clutch in and usually idles down, in this case the truck died, after i stopped it started right back up. I have tried several different things, i changed the pedal assembly about a year ago and thought that would have corrected this issue but no it still happens. Can you please help me out I would love to get this fixed and have my truck run smooth again.

Have you yet been back to the dealer to have the Cam Position Sensor (CPS) replaced under Ford's recall campaign for this?

Yes the cam shaft sensor was replaced by ford about a year ago. This really has me frustrated I have no idea what it could be.

Great info but for we who have an 02 says integral unit above. What are our options when we ultimately have similar issues?

Great info Robin...I would suggest if you can get your hands on Caigs "DeoxIt" use that to clean the switch. Far superior to any contact cleaner, we use it in vintage stereo equipment restoration (dirty pots). They sell it at the local Ratshack.

Robin or Ed, any idea if the same TPS can be used on the OBS trucks?
